Photograph quality may appear to be degraded due to:
- the high telephoto 'magnification' (800 - 1,600mm). - photos were taken at a distance ~ 1/4 mile.
- wind vibration & shake - both for the camera lens and the nest: it can be very windy and gusty where the sea meets the land.
- atmospheric effects ('heat shimmies') - shooting across a body of cool water, then across warm land .
- extreme cropping & enlarging - original photos have been cropped down to less than 1/4 of original photograph to isolate just then nest.
- general atmospheric effects - haze, reflected & diffused sunlight - there is a lot of 'air' between the lens and the nest.
