Photographs of a Para-sailer Disturbing a Wildlife Sanctuary
Photographs of a Gasoline-Powered Para-Sailer Flying around and Disturbing a Wildlife Conservation Area ...
We observed this 'para-sailer' flying around the Nanaimo River Estuary Conservation Area in the winter of 2013-2014.
The person had what appeared to be a gasoline powered propeller engine strapped to his back. This engine was EXTREMELY loud.
We observed this (and later a second) person flying around the Conservation Area, often swooping very low to the ground, sometimes even running along the ground before rising up into the air.
We also observed many (~10 or more) eagles, that had previously been sitting out in various parts of the estuary fly up and circle around when this person started his aerial maneuvers.
We were very concerned that this activity (even just the very loud NOISE alone) would disturb the feeding habits (and the nesting habits) of the resident wild birds.
